To those of us familiar with the May Long weekend in Canada, it is the unofficial kick off to the beginning of summer! For me, an avid Angler, it is the official opening of fishing season! Now while most folks in our region tend to head out on camping adventures, this year has been a drastic change to the norm. Government restrictions put in place have not allowed us to continue with our long weekend traditions, but I think perhaps our growing community of Kayak Anglers showed everyone that May Long’s are about getting your Fish On!
Couple days before the weekend, there was a little impromptu post put out across a few of the Facebook pages by a fellow angler and staffer from @Aquabatics.yeg . It was pretty simple, “heading to The Ledge at Pigeon Lake PP Friday night, who want s to join”? Let’s just say, seeing a total of 10 Kayak Anglers out on the lake, and at one point, only a single pontoon boat between us all, it was a sight for the record books! If your unfamiliar with these Facebook groups, check out @Western Canada Kayak Fishing - Canadian Residents Only and @Alberta Kayak Anglers
Follow these pages and you wont miss an opportunity to go Kayak fishing again! The community has grown so fast and everyone is truly kind individuals, willing to talk gear, fishing, rigging, and of course, the odd tall tale story!
Lots of Fish On! A great way to be outside, stay safe and distant, share comradery of an amazing sport, and meet new people!
