Kayak Fishing Review
Wilderness Systems IATAK | Walkthrough
Video: Kevin Henderson
Calling all fishing kayakers! Introducing the Wilderness Systems IATAK 110, a game-changer in inflatable fishing kayaks. We had the pleasure of speaking with Kevin Henderson from Confluence Outdoors–Wilderness Systems, who gave us an insider's look at its groundbreaking design and versatile features.
This new fully inflatable kayak offers the performance of a traditional hard shell boat with its drop stitch deck and floor, guaranteeing durability and optimal paddling experience. Let's dive into its innovative design and diverse features, covering everything from bow to stern.
Front Features: Fishbone Technology
Beginning at the bow, the IATAK features cutting-edge fishbone technology. This innovative design incorporates a built-in fin that improves the kayak's tracking performance without sacrificing maneuverability. Whether you're cruising in a straight line or executing tight turns, this kayak effortlessly handles every challenge.
Versatile Deck and Bar
As we move along the deck, you’ll notice a strategically placed bar. While it doesn’t enhance structural integrity, it’s perfect for attaching additional rod holders, fish finders, or even a camera mount. Speaking of cameras, you will find multiple mounts throughout the boat, including a convenient 1/4 by 20 fitting at the front specifically designed for your GoPro. Allowing you to capture every exciting moment as you reel in and secure your catch!
Cockpit Area: Fishing-Rich Features
The cockpit boasts many fishing-rich features, including adjustable foot braces and a Scotty rod mount base to allow for personalized setups– be mindful of the screw length to avoid puncturing the boat. The IATAK is equipped with a full drop stitch floor and a versatile frame-style seat that adjusts easily. The highlight? A cast and catch measuring tape on the boat floor for quick fish measurements.
Enhanced Comfort and Versatility
The frame-style seat stands out for its flexible seating choices and exceptional comfort. It can be folded down to convert into a high seat, a feature that facilitates smooth transitions from sitting to standing. Stable enough to support standing, this kayak offers great visibility and ease of casting. Many users prefer this elevated position for its comfort and functionality. Additionally, if you prefer sitting directly on the cockpit floor, just pop out the seat for another comfortable seating option.
Rear Features: Scotty Rod Bases and Attachment Points
At the back, you'll find additional Scotty rod bases and attachment points for your crate and other gear. Notably, the inflation ports for the floor and deck feature pressure relief valves set at 14 PSI to prevent overinflation. Plus, if you happen to leave your boat in the hot sun, these valves automatically release excess air, ensuring there's no risk of damage.
Stability and Durability
The IATAK features a fin location on its underside for enhanced tracking, which can be adjusted as needed. This boat excels in stability and durability, mimicking the performance of a hard shell model with minimal flex. The subtle sheen on its bottom and sides contributes to improved secondary stability while leaning, enhancing the overall paddling experience.
Advancing Inflatable Fishing Kayak Design
The IATAK highlights meaningful improvements in inflatable fishing kayak design, blending innovative features, stability, and durability perfectly suited for a day on the lake or a fishing expedition. We're genuinely excited about this new addition and confident you'll be equally enthusiastic!
