How to Easily Get in a Kayak

1. Once you're all geared up, bring your boat to the edge of the water and set your kayak parallel to the shore.

2. This is the secret part…set your paddle perpendicular to your kayak, behind the back of the cockpit.

Place one hand on the shaft of the paddle and on the cockpit rim, which acts as one anchor point to give you stability. Place your other hand on the opposite end of the paddle shaft, pushing the paddle blade into the ground, making it the second anchor.

Look at that, 2 anchor points out of nowhere! Bet you don’t feel as wobbly now.

3. Now that you have stability with your hands and are in a low position, bend your knees and swing your leg and body to the far side of your kayak while still keeping your hands in the stable position.

Bring your other leg into the kayak.

Now you’re fully in your kayak! How slick was that? And you’re still dry too. Amazing.

If you have a skirt, now's the time to put it on. Want to know how to get the skirt on as easily as possible, too? Then check out [How to Put On a Spray Skirt]

Either way, now you can grab your paddle, push off from shore, and have a fun cruisy day on the water!

But what happens when your day is over and you need to get out of your kayak…?

How to Easily Get Out of a Kayak

Getting out of your kayak can be done by simply reversing the steps used to enter your kayak.

This is what it looks like: ensure you position your kayak parallel to the edge of the water.

Create an anchor point with your paddle like before and swing your body weight out while keeping your hands in this stable position.

Following these simple steps to get in and out of your kayak can make for an enjoyable day on the water.
