The Swiftwater Rescue Weekend is held over two full days (Saturday and Sunday). Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the CKC River Safety and Rescue certification.
The aim of this program is to introduce and improve moving water safety and rescue concepts. It is a largely practical course with a valuable and informative theory component that helps paddlers understand the importance and basic structure of rescue and safety on the river. The main focus is on safe river use and if/when a rescue is required doing it with minimal gear in an efficient manner.
After completing this course participants can expect to have a good understanding of boat and shore-based rescues, a solid understanding of how their own personal equipment works (strengths and weaknesses). A large area of focus is also communication and group safety on the river during rescues. Learning points will be highlighted with regular discussions and debriefings on scenarios/activities.
