The Kicking Horse River Clinic is an advanced kayak program for those looking to improve their technical paddling skills on bigger rivers.
The aim of this program is to introduce paddlers to the amazing Kicking Horse River. In this course, the instructors will put participants through their paces on bigger features with a strong focus on technical skill development and safety in this style of whitewater. We talk a lot about power vs finesse, scouting on the fly, line selection, rescues, and much more in this exciting and dynamic program.
After completing this course, participants can expect to have a better understanding of how to paddle with power, efficiency, and control in whitewater that is challenging to them, and also to have practiced and understood a wide range of skills used in running more technical whitewater. We strive to help paddlers improve their technical paddling ability, experience new rivers, and impart our knowledge and passion for whitewater to all guests.
NOTES: This session is run at lower water levels and are therefore appropriate for those with confident Class III paddling skills and a bomb proof roll in that class of whitewater. This is an 'away from Calgary' course. We meet at a campground east of Golden on the Friday evening and stay there for 2 nights. The camping is on crown land with no running water and no outhouses. Golden is approximately a 25 minute drive away so we recommend people bring food, water etc for the full weekend.
