 Where to Snowshoe in the City of Calgary

• Nose Hill Park

Nose Hill Park is in the City's North and provides spectacular views of Downtown. Terrain is varied--the perfect place to get out for a quick snowshoe loop or practice technical skills on the various hills and gullies. 

The Park offers several access points depending on which part of the City you are travelling from.

At 3 times the size of Central Park there is no shortage of free-roaming country to adventure around.

• Fish Creek Provincial Park

Fish Creek Provincial Park is located in the City's South.

There are a number of trails weaving through this Provincial Park.

For trail information, use the trailside maps located throughout the Park, or Trailforks.

Fish Creek has plenty of variety. If you are looking for a challenge in the City, this is the place to be.

There are steep ascents and descents. Icy/ uneven terrain can be found as well. If you are looking for a workout, or to practice technical skills before trying adventurous routes in the mountains, this is a great option.

That being said, there are many simpler trails (including ones that follow the creek) if you just want to get the legs moving.

• Weaslehead Natural Environment Park

This park is located on the West side of the Glenmore Reservoir, where the Elbow River flows into it.

This delta provides plenty of opportunity to check out unique plant and animal life.

Keep your eyes peeled for the several species of bird that call this park home.

• Bow Habitat Station

Located in Pearce Estate Park, along the Bow River and Harvie Passage.

The interpretive trails encourage snowshoe use as you explore urban wildlife and follow animal tracks through the snow.

The nearby fish hatchery offers tours, making for a perfect day learning about wildlife in the heart of Calgary.

• Lakeview Golf Course

• North Glenmore Park

Located along the North side of Glenmore Reservoir this large park offers generous parking and spectacular views of the Weaslehead Natural Environment Park.

The ridge hosts several benches--perfect lookouts to sit back and relax.

• Edworthy Park

Edworthy Park is located on the West side of Calgary, along the Bow River.

This is a smaller park that has a nearby coffee shop for the perfect mid-snowshoe pit stop.

If you adventure East of the main parking lot you'll find the nearby Douglas Fir Trail.

The hill behind the park has many hiking trails weaving through it--a great place to get some cardio and practice on narrow trails.

Snowshoeing in West Bragg Creek (just West of Calgary)

• West Bragg Creek Trail Network

This gem of a trail network is located about half an hour West of Calgary.

Access runs through Bragg Creek, a cozy town offering down-to-earth coffee and restaurant choices. 

This area has many different snowshoe trail choices and makes for the perfect day trip or 3 hour break from City life.

West Bragg Creek also has trails made specifically for snowshoers. Perfect if you want to get away from the bustle of the busier all-season routes. 

Trails are well-designed, well-maintained, and offer stunning viewpoints throughout.

Use these trail maps to plan your route.

If you want to escape the City but don't have time to travel all the way to the mountains, this is your best option.

Snowshoeing South of Calgary

• Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area

This large conservation area is located just beyond Calgary's southern limits and is another great option to escape the City.

If you plan on visiting make sure to check the website for the latest updates.

They require all users to register ahead of time, due to Covid-19 protocols.
