The Wet Exit is the first skill learned by most whitewater paddlers and for good reason. It allows you to get out of an upturned kayak safely and effectively. It is important to become comfortable with this skill prior to advancing your paddling in the river so that you are able to perform a wet exit when you accidentally capsize on the river.
The Wet Exit is a technique for when you turn upside down, and are unable to right yourself while in the water. It's a basic and intuitive skill that every paddler needs to know in order to feel comfortable and confident in the event of a capsize. Because as the saying goes, we are all "between swims", no matter how experienced you are.
