10 must-have KAYAK FISHING ACCESSORIES
Kayak Anglers are known for their affinity with gear. It is one of the upsides of these glorious, though often gigantic modern fishing kayaks – they can haul all kinds of gear! Our Retail Manager in Edmonton, Andy, is an avid kayak angler who has helped countless people into their first fishing kayak setup and helped even more outfit one or more of their existing boats.
Andy knows his way around kayak angling accessories as well as anybody. He is a 1 part ‘likes shiny new gear’ and 1 part ‘I’m going to build this myself and see how it goes’ kind of guy. This, combined with his time in the saddle helping people choose fishing kayaks and accessories, puts him in a unique position to weigh in on the best kayak fishing accessories information post.
Check out Andy’s thoughts on the Top 10 Kayak Fishing Accessories. There may well be something in there you haven’t heard of and will make your days on the water that much more fun, easier or comfortable.

1. YakAttack Omega Pro Rod Holder with Track Mounting System
This is at the top of my list for a reason. If I could only have one kayak fishing accessory ever, this would be it.
The Yak Attack Omega Pro Rod Holder is the McGyver of many kayak anglers accessory setup. Able to seamlessly hold fly rods, spinning, and baitcasting setups. It is super easy to attach to any angling kayak with tracks mounted and can be used for simply storing your rods whilst in ‘on water’ transit or for trawling on the go.
The Yak Attack Omega Pro Rod Holder is also ultra adjustable, allowing 4“ of vertical extension, enabling anglers to keep the rod butt up and out of the cockpit area, which is needed when you're using a pedal drive instead of paddling and want to keep your rod close at hand. Or if you’re like me, it provides a great arm rest while trolling as well.
2. YakAttack BlackPak Pro Kayak Crate
The Yak Attack Black Pack Pro is a stylish, versatile and functional angling crate. My favorite part is the built-in rod tethers, why, because I drop stuff all the time!
Most anglers run some type of crate for easy tackle storage and access while fishing. The older model blackpack was not my favorite. The newer model, however, is bombproof and has all the things a good crate has without any unneeded lids or awkward-to-access compartments.
What makes this a good crate are things like its built-in rod tethers, its rubber feet to reduce noise and sliding around in your tankwell, along with its varied size options. There is no one-size-fits-all all in the kayaking world.
On a side note: if you run 3700 series plano cases for tackle you’re going to need the large 16 x 16 or 13 x 16 models.
3. Scotty Extra Long Grip Rivets 132
This kayak fishing accessory is an odd one to see so high on the list but it's a time saver and a great solution to problems anglers face while outfitting their boats.
Why drill massive holes for well nuts when you can rivet? What is the solution for attaching things you can't reach from inside the boat? You got it, Rivets.
4. C-Tug Kayak and Canoe Boat Cart
The C-Tug boat cart is a modular, ultra tough, go anywhere boat hauling machine. Let’s face it, you didn’t buy your angling kayak for how lightweight it is! The C-Tug Boat Cart will help you access bodies of water not directly accessible by boat launch.
The modular build allows you to break it down for easy storage and transport on or in your fishing kayak. The parts are almost indestructible, and if you do somehow manage to break a component they are backed by a 10 year warranty.
From Simon Coward: "I used the C-Tug on a remote kayak race in the Yukon where we had a 22’ tandem sea kayak packed for 10 days. Suffice to say it was a heavy rig. The C-Tug had no problem hauling that monster over gravel, rocks, grass and sand."
5. Yakattack Leverage Landing Net with Foam Extension
The Yak Attack Leverage Landing Net, whilst not a kayak angling specific per say, has an ergonomic handle that makes landing a fish with one arm a breeze. This job can be a chore at times in a kayak, alone, when you're landing a 30 plus inch fish.
What makes this net better than your standard straight shaft net? The shape and design.
The arm bracket on the lower part of the shaft rests snuggly on your forearm while the eva handle on the bent part of the shaft provides a secure gip which allows you to use the leverage of your arm and the net better, making it physically easier (think grade ten science) to land a fish with one arm only.
As it's tough to reach across the boat and use two hands in a small craft like a kayak, the ability to use only one arm for most fish allows for better stability and drastically reduces deck clutter. As a bonus, it fits snuggly into any flush mount rod tube or the majority or rod holders on the market as well.
6. Yakattack GT90 Top Loading Geartrack (GTTL90)
Kayak Anglers love accessories! The Yak Attack GT90 Top Loading Geartrack is the ideal way to attach said accessories on your kayak. It has the strength of steel track with less holes to drill than its plastic counterparts.
Compatible with all polyethylene kayaks and most brands of kayak angling accessories. (adapters may be required)
7. Scotty Glue on Pad 341
The Scotty Glue on pad is a great no drill mounting solution for rod holders and other accessories. This kayak fishing accessory works great for inflatable kayaks and SUPs.
The pad can be fastened to hypalon or PVC watercraft using a variety of different adhesives.
8. Urchin Lightweight Boat Anchor
A great lightweight solution for those backcountry enthusiasts, or those protage-prone trips. Why carry dead weight on your journey? Instead, fill it up with rocks and things at the location and there you have it, an anchor!
9. Yakattack Vertical Tie-Down Track Mount
Upgrade those tankwell bungees and use a more secure strap system. They instantly give you a tie down point wherever you can track mount it.
The Vertical Tie downs provide an ideal place to secure a one inch flat straps though (NRS HD straps for the win).
I utilize these the most when doing gear heavy adventures like multi-day trips or tournaments where I may bring a cooler for those 10hr plus days on the water. They slide into most gear tracks and can be secured tightly with the rubber grip base and minimal elbow grease.
These also provide a more secure option for tying off your gear crate in your tankwell by replacing the stock bungees with a stronger strap option. Do you trust those bungees with hundreds of dollars of gear and tackle? I know I don't want to find out the hard way.
10. Scotty Locking Gunnel Track Mount 343
If you have a heavier item to mount on your kayak The Scotty locking Gunnel track mount, in my opinion, is the best available solution for those bigger items some may use on their fishing kayak (heres looking at you downriggers and 9" fishfinder screens).
