First Look: The New NRS Lucid PFD for 2025
Hey, Tom here from AQ Outdoors! Today we’re getting a sneak peek at some of the exciting new gear for 2025. And right in front of me? The brand-new NRS Lucid PFD—a high-back, mesh-back life jacket designed for comfort, simplicity, and all-day wearability.
Let’s dive in and take a closer look!
A PFD for Everybody
One of the most exciting things about the Lucid PFD is its fit. Instead of offering separate men’s and women’s models, NRS has incorporated their Everybody Fit System, a design that works for a wide range of body types. We saw this concept introduced last year with some of their other recreational PFDs, and it was a huge success. Now, they’ve brought it to a mesh-back version for 2025, which we’re really excited about.
This PFD is built for the recreational paddler—especially those with a high-back kayak seat or framed angler seat—who want a simple, uncluttered design without sacrificing comfort or functionality.
Key Features: Keeping It Simple
While the Lucid PFD doesn’t come with an overwhelming list of features, that’s actually part of its appeal. Here’s what you can expect:
- Mesh back design – Perfect for high-back kayak and angler seats
- A couple of front pockets – Enough for the essentials, without unnecessary bulk
- Stowaway strap sections – Keeps things tidy and out of the way
- Lightweight & contoured fit – Designed for all-day comfort
It’s all about simplicity and comfort, making this a PFD you’ll actually want to wear from launch to takeout.
Putting It to the Test
Alright, time for the real test—let’s try it on.
I just finished testing the new Chinook PFD for 2025, which is essentially the angler version of this same vest. Even with a knife, accessories, and all the bells and whistles attached, the Chinook still felt light and comfortable. But the Lucid? Stripped down and even lighter.
Right away, I noticed how precontoured the fit feels it molds to the body nicely, and the weight savings are really impressive. The way it contours across the shoulder blades makes it noticeably more comfortable than previous mesh-back PFDs.

Final Thoughts: Who Is This PFD For?
The NRS Lucid PFD is going to be an amazing option for recreational paddlers who don’t want bulk on their lower back but still need a PFD they can wear comfortably all day. The fit, feel, and simplicity make it a standout for 2025, and NRS has done a great job with the design.
