This is a four evening progression with Badfish Team Athlete Reta Boychuk. She will take you from flat water to the flow and then the rapids!
The aim of this course is to introduce paddlers with good SUP flatwater skills to processing up to paddling comfortably in current. The program focuses heavily on skills but most of all the safety elements of paddling on the river. In this course you will learn about eddies and how to use them to stop and slow down, river hazards and avoidance plus a whole bunch on gear, logistics etc.
After completing this course participants can expect to feel comfortable taking a personal (unguided) SUP trip on class 1-2 rivers. They will also develop an understanding of the potential hazards the river poses along with a variety of new skills that can be applied to the moving water environment. Skills including eddies, ferries, surfing and running small features.
NOTE: In the Calgary area, the closest and best option for SUP (in our humble opinion) is the Bow River. This course will show you the ins and outs of River SUP as well as provide you with a great section of rivers to paddle in the future.
